What to Expect in Your Consultation

July 20, 2022

As many of us know, a successful design process takes planning and preparation. So as you’re standing in your space, ready for a change, you probably feel a little overwhelmed. You have all these ideas but aren’t sure where to begin.

Good news,  you just made the first step in your design journey! As a designer, I might be partial, but what follows is possibly one of my favorite parts of the process: the consultation. It’s my chance to meet you, embrace the magic of change and the beautiful story that is your home.

The Importance of Gaining Perspective

After a brief chat, you think we could be a good match, so we schedule your consultation. To gain some insight into your goals and the logistics of your space, I’ll ask you to complete a form before we meet containing a list of various questions. You can expect questions like “How do you like to spend your lazy Sundays?” and “How much square footage is the project space?” It’s a fun way for us to get to know each other, and it gives me better insight as to how we’ll create a home that’s truly your own. Next, we’re ready to meet in person! The consultation consists of a stand-alone service fee and is an on-site meeting that can last up to two hours.

The Conceptual Process

Consider this the most important part of the interior design process. It’s an opportunity for me to see your home as it naturally lives and learn more about your family’s story. With each room, we’re able to discuss what’s working and what’s not, whether it’s the layout, architectural elements, lighting, or decor pieces. We work as a team to hone in on any problems you’d like to consider for the scope of work we’ll embark on.

The consultation is also a perfect time to address your budget. Sometimes our clients already have a budget in mind, which is great! Other times, they don’t, and that’s totally ok, too. At this point, it isn’t expected that you have everything figured out – that’s why I’m here to help. We’ll type up a Consultation Summary for you to use as a roadmap moving forward, where you’ll have the option to move into a full-service design contract with us to bring your project to completion.

Transforming Your Dream to Reality

Good design is all about considering the space overall and how each element relates to the other. It takes time and can’t be achieved in a 2-hour consultation. As an interior designer, I can stand in a room and instinctively feel what it needs, however, we can also turn that initial concept into something even more special, given more time. You deserve a space that truly feels like you. In order to create your dream home, a consultation is a necessary step with long-lasting value.

Get Started!

Ready to get your hands dirty? Let’s start the design process! Fill out this form to contact me, and I’ll get in touch with our next steps. I’m a sucker for a good story and can’t wait to hear yours!
