My thoughts on trends and if they’re truly sustainable
As a designer and an avid lover of fashion, I definitely get intrigued at the latest trends – whether they be inside the home or not. But what are my thoughts on them? Are they truly sustainable?
My home is proof. It’s a treasure trove of family heirlooms, vintage finds, and well-loved pieces. They weren’t trendy when they were passed on to me, but now they whisper stories and add a layer of depth to my space. Trends can come and go, but a thoughtful foundation of quality pieces? That’s the secret to a space that’s always stylish and always you.
Same goes for fashion. Forget mindless buying sprees. Look in your closet. Play with proportions, layer textures, and rediscover forgotten gems. You might be surprised at the magic you can conjure with what you already have.
I’m not about the buy-and-donate cycle. Give life to what you own, tweak it, reinvent it. Trends can be sustainable, but only if we approach them with intention and respect. Otherwise, they just fuel the fire of our insatiable “more, more, more” mentality.
So, my thoughts are, it’s ok to embrace trends, but let’s always embrace them consciously and thoughtfully.
Monochromatic madness
A recent obsession and I think, a valid one – the key is to drench a room in a color you adore, incorporating darker and lighter shades to create a bold and cohesive statement. I’m a big advocate for pairing this look with some textures or furs to add some depth.
Real Love Baby – Father John Misty
“Our hearts, are free, so tell me what’s wrong with the feeling, I’m a flower, you’re my bee
It’s much older than you and me
I’m in love, I’m alive
I belong to the stars and sky
Let’s forget who we are for one night”
You know I couldn’t send out a February newsletter without someeeee reference to saint valentine’s little mid-month holiday.
Zellige Tiles
Inspired by the rich Moroccan tradition, these tiles are popular for their timeless and imperfect aesthetic. Whether they’re in the shower or used as a backsplash, they are sure to add a touch of elegant luxury to any space.
