December 3, 2020
It’s time to get out and support local small business this holiday season! December 2020, we are here, Lord knows how we made it, but we did. So, by now we are all knee deep in the holidays. Thanksgiving is behind us and Christmas is in full swing. Which means time to find those perfect gifts for our loved ones! So who needs a little help in this department? I know how easy it is to fall in to the convenience of Amazon and the big retailers, but now more than ever our little local shops need our support. And trust me, if you haven’t found your holiday spirit yet, after a visit to these local shops you may even find yourself singing along to those Christmas carols. As a result I’ve pulled together a few of my local go to’s for the holidays.
Find Something for everyone on your list and support local small business.
Ojai
For the crafter, for her, for the kids, for the vinyl lover…. ok so you can find pretty much something for everyone. Added bonus pick up your favorite hot beverage at Beacon and crank those holiday tunes for the the lovely drive. I highly recommend the knit-a-longs for that special knitter on your list. I did the August sweater with my mom, and we had a great time on Zoom gathering with fellow yarn junkies.
Carpinteria
Heritage Goods & Supply – Carpinteria
For the homesteader, for the outdoorsmen, for the animal lover, again something for the entire family! They carry a large range of heritage brands from Patagonia, Pendleton, Blundstone and many more. Plus local brands like Los Padres Outfitters gear. Which by the way, if you are looking to gift an experience your family wont forget, do yourself a favor and book a back country pack trip with Graham and his crew at Los Padres Outfitters. Heritage is a feel good store for the whole family, the old kind of general store that leaves a smile on your face. AND yes, another opportunity for some great local coffee next door from Lucky Llama!
For her, for him, for the little kids, for the cook, for the homebody, for the art lover. Check out their new upgraded space from their original little trailer behind Porch. It’s so beautifully curated! If you are looking for a treasure you are sure to find it here, full of vintage, one of a kind finds and original art work. From large furniture, rugs, pillows, accessories, jewelry. It’s really all so good!
Summerland
For the cook, for the foodie, for the pet lover, for the gardener, for the homebody. It’s a celebration of Southern California lifestyle, easy, luxurious, indoor / outdoor living at its best. The staff is supper helpful and friendly, and they crank out the most beautiful curated gifts behind the counter. P.S. stop for lunch or a third cup of your favorite hot beverage at their food counter and enjoy on the outside patio.
Montecito
Montecito Country Mart – Montecito
For everyone! Seriously, everyone. Treat your guy to the Montecito Barber. The kids to Toy crazy, Poppy. The kid at heart to Rori’s, who doesn’t love ice cream? Pizza night from Bettina, treats from Merci. Pressed juice for the post holiday cleansers. Beautiful jewelry from holiday pop up Sheryl Lowe. Studio C for all things made in California! Mate Gallery is always a favorite of mine. Stocking stuffers from Read n’ Post….. and much more. One stop shop!
Shop local, shop small, shop smart.
Most importantly, I hope this inspires you to get out there and support local small business! Really it’s skimming the top of what our special neck of the woods has to offer. We are blessed with so many creative local artists, makers, shop owners. So feel inspired, be brave, get out there and get in the spirit. Don’t forget your mask, all the retailers are doing their part to create a safe shopping environment for you and their employees. Now let’s do ours to support them!
